Fees and payouts
Here's exactly how the money moves. We don't take a percentage. Stripe charges a card fee, a donor's optional tip covers it first, and whatever is left of the tip is what keeps the site running.
Handful of Angels is not a charity. Donations are personal gifts and are generally not tax-deductible.

We don't take a cut of any gift. Stripe's card fee is real, though. A donor's optional tip covers it first; with no tip, it comes out of the gift.

The beneficiary can withdraw $10 or more to their bank. The first payout is held 72 hours, then transfers take 1 to 3 business days.

The fee
Where each dollar goes
Stripe charges about 2.9% + 30¢ to process a card. If the donor adds a tip, the tip covers that fee first and the survivor gets the full gift. What's left of the tip is how we keep the site free for families. With no tip, the fee comes out of the gift.

If you do tip at checkout, there's a minimum so the tip at least covers Stripe's fee. That's why some of the smaller percentages above won't be offered on small gifts.
