Giving
A gift goes to the person the campaign is for, not to us. The only thing that comes out is Stripe's card fee, and you see it before you pay.
Handful of Angels is not a charity. Donations are personal gifts and are generally not tax-deductible.

Where money fits
Most people who open a campaign will write something and never give a dollar, and that's fine. The page is built around the messages. Money is there for the families who need it, and the survivor can turn it off.
When someone does give, we don't take a percentage. Stripe charges about 2.9% + 30¢ to process the card. A donor's optional tip covers that first; with no tip, it comes out of the gift.
The exact numbers for any amount are on the fees and payouts page.

Step by step
Anyone with the link can give by card through Stripe, any amount from $5, with or without their name showing.
The money sits with Stripe, not with us and not with the Angel. Until the survivor opens the campaign, nothing can be withdrawn.
The beneficiary, usually the survivor or someone they name, verifies their identity and bank with Stripe and withdraws $10 or more. The first payout is held 72 hours. After that it's 1 to 3 business days to the bank.
The Angel and the beneficiary see every gift as it comes in, and get a summary they can keep.
Build it, send the link, and everyone who asks “what can I do?” has an answer. Giving is optional. Showing up is the point.
